Rick Mueller is chair of Johnson & Bell’s Environmental Law group, and focuses on environmental litigation, environmental counseling and product liability defense.
Throughout a 25-plus year career, Mr. Mueller has litigated multiparty hazardous waste cases and complex mass tort cases, including the defense of upwards of 1,000 asbestos lawsuits beginning in 1976, when the first asbestos lawsuit was filed in Cook County, Illinois to the present.
He defends multiple clients in asbestos litigation in Cook County and Madison County, Illinois. In addition, he serves as National Coordinating Counsel for a pump manufacturer.
Mr. Mueller has also defended corporations involved in multiparty hazardous waste cases initiated by federal and state environmental protection agencies pursuant to CERCLA and other statutes, as well as in civil administrative actions filed by federal and state authorities under TSCA and other environmental statutes.
He also counsels clients on compliance with hazardous and infectious-waste regulations, assists in the response to chemical spills and accidents and helps clients meet environmental permitting requirements.
Mr. Mueller is a member of the Illinois Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the American Law Firm Association’s Environmental Practice Group Steering Committee. He earned his undergraduate degree, and his J.D. from Indiana University.
