Dane Spencer is an associate primarily advocating in the field of health care law, representing hospitals, physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals across multiple jurisdictions. He handles defense of claims involving medical malpractice, correctional healthcare, wrongful death, and other complex health care matters in Chicago and throughout various jurisdictions. Mr. Spencer has experience managing various stages of civil litigation on both sides of the courtroom, including dispositive motion practice, oversight of discovery, participation in mediations and settlement negotiations, and the management of other key aspects of the litigation process.
He earned his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Mississippi, where he studied English with a minor in Philosophy and spent four years competing with the university’s traveling mock trial team. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law. While attending law school, he served as both a competing member and coach of the moot court program, participating in multiple rounds argued before judges of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit at the Dirksen Courthouse in Chicago.
During law school, Mr. Spencer continued to develop his courtroom experience as a certified legal intern with the Connecticut State’s Attorney’s Office in Stamford, appearing on the record before several state court judges on a daily basis. By the time he completed his studies, he had been recognized with several academic and service honors, including the Law and Technology Concentration, the Pro Bono Commitment to Community Award, the Dean’s Scholarship Award, a CALI Excellence Award in Trade Secret Law, and the Best Brief Award in the school’s Walter H. Rice Moot Court Competition.
Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Spencer enjoys writing, fishing, spending time with friends and family, and spending time with his German Shepherd, who knows him best as the man with the tennis ball.
