Johnson & Bell Shareholder, Victor J. Pioli, will participate in the American Bar Association’s National Workshop on the Advancement of Attorney Well-Being in the Law Firm Setting. The workshop takes place April 25-27, 2018 and is being held in conjunction with the ABA Standing Committee on Lawyers’ Professional Liability (LPL).
The workshop is intended to form practical and workable law firm policies to reinforce lawyer well-being as a main component of the ethical obligations of competence and diligence, as well as professionalism. Firm leaders, risk management providers and subject matter experts, including members of lawyer assistance programs, will create innovations, ideas and tools to develop a national model policy on lawyer well-being for use in law firms. Participants will also learn ways to promote lifestyles within firms, and how to address addiction and mental health issues to help lawyers as part of a firm's risk management strategy.
A seasoned trial attorney who has tried multiple lawyers professional liability cases to verdict, Mr. Pioli will speak on Thursday, April 26, in the presentation, “My Client is a Nightmare! How to Prepare Your Difficult LPL Client for a Deposition.” This presentation will offer practical tips and strategies for focused preparation and simple-yet-powerful witness preparation techniques to guide the lawyer/defendant through the deposition minefield. Mr. Pioli will be speaking with Adam Boesen, a trial consultant and managing director of litigation psychology in Dallas, as well as with Andrew Kowlowitz, a partner at Furman Kornfeld & Brennan in New York, and Christine Mast, a partner at Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP in Atlanta.
As a member of Johnson & Bell’s Business Litigation and Professional Liability practice groups, Mr. Pioli handles a variety of commercial matters, including trial and appellate work on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts. His client list ranges from large corporations and government entities to individuals. He’s litigated simple contract disputes, complex securities disputes and antitrust matters, to name just a few representative cases. He also regularly defends lawyers, accountants, attorneys and brokers in professional malpractice matters and has successfully tried several cases to verdict.
