Johnson & Bell Shareholder, David A. Warnick, recently completed Harvard’s online course, “Cybersecurity: Managing Risk in the Information Age.” The eight-week course taught attendees how to develop and implement cyber risk mitigation strategies, including the appropriate legal and compliance initiatives necessary when responding to and reporting cyberattacks. Dave became interested in the class after discussing data security issues with an insurance claims director with whom he frequently works. The claims professional explained that his carrier was seeing a dramatic increase in cybersecurity claims and encouraged him to become acclimated in the field. Interestingly, Dave’s classmates consisted of a wide range of professionals, including other cybersecurity specific insurance claims handlers, FBI agents, current cybersecurity security officers (CISOs), and international business people. Over the coming weeks and months, Dave anticipates becoming involved in helping clients to defend cybersecurity claims as well as helping them to assess insurance coverage claims.
