Johnson & Bell Shareholders, Victor J. Pioli and Ramses Jalalpour, secured a verdict in favor of a matrimonial attorney in a trial taking place in DuPage County. In this case, Messrs. Pioli and Jalalpour represented a suburban divorce lawyer who was sued by his former client. The former client claimed that the divorce attorney failed to properly designate and value marital property consisting of two businesses. In addition, the plaintiff claimed that the divorce lawyer failed to otherwise properly strategize and value other assets and labilities at the underlying divorce trial. The plaintiff sought damages of $1 million. The defense team argued that that the divorce lawyer properly informed the plaintiff of the pros and cons of various trial strategies, and the plaintiff chose the most aggressive (and therefore riskiest) strategy due to his intense animosity towards his then-wife. After a seven-day jury trial in DuPage County, the jury returned a defense verdict.
