Johnson & Bell Shareholder Kevin G. Owens and Associate Angela M. Kotsalieff recently authored the Illinois section of a 50-state product liability compendium. The Compendium offers a synopsis of significant case law or statutes involving whether pre-injury waivers of jury trials are enforceable in each state, whether pre-injury waivers/releases of claims for injury or death are enforceable in each state and whether agreements restricting claims for injury or death to binding arbitration are enforceable in each state.
The compendium was compiled by the ALFA International Product Liability & Complex Torts Practice Group. Founded in 1980, ALFA International was the first and continues to be one of the largest and strongest legal networks, with some 150 member firms around the world. ALFA’s Board of Directors is comprised of sixteen lawyers from member firms, four of whom come from international member firms. Mr. Owens is presently a member of ALFA’s Board of Directors.
