David J. Thompson concentrates his practice on health care law, including the defense of cases brought for medical malpractice and under the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act. His practice covers a wide range of claims brought against hospitals, physicians, and skilled nursing facilities throughout Illinois. Prior to joining Johnson and Bell in 2015, Mr. Thompson worked at a prominent plaintiff's medical malpractice firm, representing individuals in medical negligence and nursing home abuse and neglect cases. At Johnson & Bell he has successfully defended hundreds of medical malpractice and long-term care cases for his clients.
Mr. Thompson has achieved great results for clients at every stage of litigation, including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and at trial. He has obtained “not guilty” verdicts at trial in cases of medical malpractice and under the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act. Mr. Thompson has also successfully defended premises liability and related cases brought against hospitals and other institutions.
Mr. Thompson earned his undergraduate degree from Butler University and his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law. While earning his law degree, he also received multiple CALI Awards for Excellence and numerous inclusions on the Dean's Honor List. Mr. Thompson is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association.
