Adnan Shafi specializes in municipal liability cases, where he represents municipalities and law enforcement officers. He also defends against medical malpractice claims involving hospitals and physicians, and handles commercial and business litigation, including employment discrimination disputes for corporations. Before joining Johnson & Bell, Mr. Shafi gained significant experience as an Assistant State's Attorney with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. In that role, he served as a prosecutor in the Juvenile Justice Bureau's Delinquency Division, among others, where he successfully litigated multiple felony trials.
Mr. Shafi earned his J.D. from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2019. During law school, he was an active member of the Chicago-Kent trial team, participating in mock trial competitions, and served as the secretary of the Student Bar Association. In 2016, he also obtained a Masters in Intellectual Property Law from the same institution.
Before moving to the United States, Mr. Shafi completed his Bachelor of Laws at Amity University in 2015, where he started his legal career as a criminal defense attorney in India. During his law studies, he interned at a law firm and notably contributed to the high-profile Arushi Murder Case, which was later adapted into the Bollywood film "Talvar," now available on Netflix. His legal expertise is recognized in both Illinois and India. Additionally, Mr. Shafi holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree from Amity University, which he earned in 2012.
Mr. Shafi remains an involved member of the Chicago legal community. He is an active member of the South Asian Bar Association where he serves as the Treasurer. Beyond his legal pursuits, he is passionate about sports. He regularly plays soccer, enjoys bike rides, go-karting, golfing, and stays active with workout sessions.
