Johnson & Bell Shareholders, Brian P. Gainer and Monica Burkoth, secured a defense verdict in favor of the City of Chicago and a Chicago police officer. The trial, which took place in the Circuit Court of Cook County, involved wrongful death and survival act claims stemming from an officer involved shooting that occurred in November of 2017. The decedent’s estate sought damages of over $4 million. After a week-long trial, the jury deliberated for about two hours before returning a verdict in favor of the Defendants.
