Johnson & Bell Shareholders, Gregory E. Schiller and Lynn M. Reid, secured a defense verdict in favor of their client, a surgeon. After a two-week trial before Cook County Judge Patricia O’Brien Sheahan, the jury returned a verdict in favor of all four physician defendants, including Johnson & Bell’s client. The case involved the death of a 53-year-old male who was undergoing an endoscopic procedure. The plaintiff alleged that the defendants failed to obtain a cardiology consultation before the procedure, leading to the death of the patient afterwards. At closing, the plaintiff asked the jury to award damages of $2 million.
