Johnson and Bell, Ltd. is pleased to announce that Associate, Carlos A. Vera, has been named one of the “Forty Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch” for 2020 by Law Bulletin Publishing Company, publishers of Chicago Lawyer magazine and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.

Carlos Vera concentrates his practice in general and complex commercial litigation, particularly in the areas of business torts, professional liability, white collar defense and contractual disputes. Mr. Vera has represented individuals and business entities in state and federal court, in regulatory matters before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations, and the Illinois Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission. Prior to joining Johnson & Bell, Mr. Vera worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County. During his time there, he gained trial experience as he prosecuted over 200 bench trials and seven jury trials to verdict. Mr. Vera also drafted numerous appellate briefs and argued twice before the 1st District Court of Appeals on behalf of the State. Mr. Vera previously clerked for Judge Ronald Bartkowicz on the Commercial Calendar of the Circuit Court of Cook County dealing extensively with matters arising out of commercial litigation.
Mr. Vera holds a B.A. in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Whittier College, graduating in 2006, and a J.D., Cum Laude, from Chicago-Kent College of Law, graduating in 2012. While in law school, Mr. Vera served as a law clerk in the Trial Division of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. He also served as a law clerk at Caputo Law firm, and at Hickey, Melia & Associates. Mr. Vera served as a judicial extern to the Honorable James Holderman, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, as well as to the Honorable Drella Savage, Circuit Court of Cook County, Law Division. Mr. Vera is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Justinian Society of Lawyers.
