Mr. Thompson concentrates his legal practice defending clients against claims of medical malpractice and actions under the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act. His cases involve the defense of hospitals, physicians, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and supportive living facilities. Prior to joining Johnson & Bell, Mr. Thompson worked at a prominent plaintiff’s personal injury firm and represented individuals in claims of medical malpractice and nursing home abuse and neglect. Since joining Johnson & Bell in 2015, Mr. Thompson has defended hundreds of medical malpractice and nursing home cases for his clients.
Mr. Thompson’s practice also includes general liability defense including premises liability. In this field, he co-chaired a jury trial in which a hospital patient claimed injury to his foot resulting in partial amputation. Plaintiff’s counsel asked the jury to award $1.5M in damages, but the jury returned a not guilty verdict in favor of Mr. Thompson’s client. Mr. Thompson has also secured dismissal of cases at the summary judgment stage prior to trial.
Mr. Thompson earned his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law and his undergraduate degree from Butler University. While earning his law degree, Mr. Thompson received multiple CALI Awards for Excellence and numerous inclusions on the Dean's Honor List. Mr. Thompson is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association.
He currently resides with his wife in Northbrook. On weekends, he enjoys golfing, running, and biking.
Mr. Warnick concentrates his practice in commercial transportation, product liability and general liability litigation. His cases have involved personal injuries associated with chemical exposure, catastrophic motor vehicle accidents, and high-exposure fire loss, among others. Mr. Warnick serves a broad range of firm clients.
Mr. Warnick received his J.D. from Capital University Law School. While earning his degree, he worked as law clerk for a personal injury law firm. In addition, he externed for Judge Norah McCann King at the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He also externed at the Federal Public Defenders office in Ohio working on death penalty appeals. He received his undergraduate degree from University of Dayton.
Mr. Warnick has authored or co-authored articles published in the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel’s IDC Quarterly and Chicago Daily Law Bulletin pertaining to civil practice and strategy. He is a member of ALFA, DRI, and the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel. David, his wife, and young son are residents of Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
