Meghan M. Sciortino, a Shareholder at Johnson & Bell, Ltd. in Chicago, focuses her practice on product liability, premises liability and construction law. Ms. Sciortino defends product manufacturers and distributors of a variety of products including everything from elevator controllers, power tools and industrial machinery to kitchen appliances and cosmetics tools. She also defends retailers, contractors, utility companies, premises owners and others involved in personal injury litigation. Ms. Sciortino has obtained numerous summary judgments and secured many dismissals on behalf of her clients prior to trial.
In addition to representing product manufacturers in product liability cases pending in Illinois, Ms. Sciortino is currently serving with John Bell as Midwest defense counsel for a manufacturer of table saws in more than 20 lawsuits pending throughout the Midwest. In October 2014, they obtained a “not guilty” verdict after a two-week trial in Federal Court in Minnesota where the plaintiff requested over $6 million in damages and the defense of the case was based, in part, on the products compliance with the voluntary industry safety standard.
Ms. Sciortino has been recognized as a "Rising Star" in personal injury defense by Chicago Magazine and Illinois Super Lawyers from 2012-2017 and as an “Emerging Lawyer” in 2015 by Leading Lawyers magazine. These honors reflect that Ms. Sciortino has been selected by her peers and advisory boards in a rigorous rating process and proven herself professional, ethical and experienced at an early point in her legal career. The honor of “Rising Star” is presented to only the top 2.5 percent of Illinois attorneys and the honor of “Emerging Lawyer” is presented to only the top 2 percent of Illinois attorneys.
