Joseph F. Spitzzeri is the co-chair of Johnson & Bell’s Construction, Employment and Private Security groups. He focuses his practice on construction, municipal liability, employment liability, defense issues and Occupational Health & Safety (OSHA) issues. Mr. Spitzzeri also has defended clients in cases alleging sexual misconduct or sexual harassment, as well as school districts in sexual abuse cases.
Mr. Spitzzeri represents contractors and employees before the Inspector General for the City of Chicago and State of Illinois, and defends Fair Labor Standard Act cases and Welfare & Pension Fund Contribution Deficiency cases.
In his former career as an Illinois Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Spitzzeri tried numerous cases in circuit courts throughout Illinois. He has also tried cases in the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, including two class actions. His peers have noted his success as a trial attorney by honoring him with an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Spitzzeri frequently speaks and writes about employment, OSHA and construction risk issues. He represents Security and Loss Prevention Consultants in litigation and regularly presents at the International Risk Management Institute’s Construction Risk Conference.
Mr. Spitzzeri also serves as Johnson & Bell's general counsel and secretary.
