James K. Toohey is a member of Johnson & Bell’s Toxic Tort defense group, focusing his area of practice in business law and litigation, as well as toxic tort. Within commercial and casualty litigation, Mr. Toohey has primarily represented manufacturers in products liability, toxic tort and commercial breach of contract and breach of warranty claims arising from alleged failure of product performance. He also has handled class action litigation against major automotive manufacturers.
Mr. Toohey has also served as lead trial counsel in state and federal courts throughout Illinois and in states including New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri and Texas.
He defends multiple clients in asbestos litigation in Cook County and Madison County, Illinois. In addition, he serves as National Coordinating Counsel for a pump manufacturer.
His peers have nominated him with an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
An elected member of the Illinois Society of Trial Attorneys, he has served on the faculty of the Harris-Martin Asbestos Seminar.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, and his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
