Ahmed A. Kosoko focuses his practice on municipal liability, insurance defense, appellate law, and governmental tort liability. Prior to joining Johnson & Bell, Mr. Kosoko was an Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County, Illinois where he served in various divisions within the office. Mr. Kosoko has litigated hundreds of cases as a prosecutor in the child support enforcement division, traffic division, felony review unit, and the professional standards unit. His duties ranged from investigation to verdict, including but not limited to maintaining extensive discovery, litigating substantive pre-trial motions, jury selection, presentation of evidence including forensic evidence, cross-examination of expert witnesses and other defense witnesses, drafting jury instructions and delivering closing arguments. During his time as an Assistant State’s Attorney, he prosecuted 13 trials to jury verdict and earned a reputation as a very effective trial attorney.
In addition to his extensive trial experience, Mr. Kosoko has significant appellate experience too, having argued several cases before the First District Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Supreme Court in People v. Williams, 235 Ill. 2d 178 (2009).
Mr. Kosoko received his J.D. from Northern Illinois College of Law in 2004 and his bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University in 2001. Mr. Kosoko resides in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood and is active in the community.
