It has been a busy and fulfilling holiday season for Johnson & Bell. As part of the Holiday Sharing Projects, we delivered dozens of pairs of socks to The Night Ministry. We also had 15 Johnson & Bell “bakers” make chocolate chip, oatmeal and sugar cookies to donate to the organization, resulting in three bankers boxes full of homemade cookies. All of these goods will help The Night Ministry conduct its work in Chicago’s neighborhoods. The Night Ministry has vans that journey out every night to provide food, warm clothing and blankets to the homeless population and those in need.

We also participated in Operation Christmas' Adopt a Child program. The non-for-profit organization dates back to 1972 when one couple decided to help a needy family during the holiday season. The organization works with volunteers, corporations and individual donors to sponsor specific children with the goal of fulfilling their needs and wishes. Each year hundreds of children from needy families in the Chicagoland area know the joy that Santa brings on Christmas morning all because of the work of Operation Christmas. The organization works by maintaining total anonymity for the recipient families, as well as the donors.

Through our work with Operation Christmas, we had 24 volunteer Santa’s Helpers sponsor 21 children from six families. Some of the volunteer Santa’s Helpers worked individually and others worked in teams. The effort resulted in two vans of Christmas gifts that were delivered to the organization.

It is not often that the supporters of Operation Christmas or other social service organizations see the outcomes of their contributions, but this year we were treated to the following story. One of this year’s volunteers at Operation Christmas was asked how she learned of the organization. The young woman responded that her own family went through a period of financial hardship. It took her parents several years to get back on their feet – she and her siblings were quite young at time. During those years, the only reason they had gifts to open on Christmas morning, as well as a real Christmas dinner, was because of Operation Christmas. She just wanted to give back.

Johnson & Bell continues to partner with The Night Ministry and Operation Christmas to support their efforts in providing comfort and joy to those in need during the holiday season.
