Sammi L. Renken concentrates on healthcare professional liability, including medical malpractice, legal malpractice involving underlying healthcare litigation, medical product liability and nursing home litigation. Ms. Renken has also successfully defended a variety of practitioners on licensure issues before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Her clients include area hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities, urgent care centers, group homes for minors with developmental disabilities, same-day surgery centers, individual physicians and nurses.
Many of Ms. Renken’s health care litigation and cases have gone to verdict in the Circuit Court of Cook County and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Ms. Reneken frequently addresses seminars, nursing homes, hospitals and medical centers on topics such as wound care litigation and long term care liability. She’s also written extensively about health care litigation for Johnson & Bell’s Health Care Law Alert, among other publications.
Selected by the Law Publishing Company as one of the “Forty Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch” in 2010, Ms. Renken was additionally honored by the Chicagoland Healthcare Risk Management Society (CHRMS) in 2011 with its President's Award. Since 2007, she’s held many positions at CHRMS, most recently as officer, President Elect. She’s been active in several other organizations, including The American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, the American Law Firm Association and the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys.
In her community, Ms. Renken volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul Center and Marillac Social Center, a non-profit organization that provides services to families in need, where she’s served on several communities.
